Kiniski was born in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1928. He began his wrestling career in the late 1940s, and quickly rose to the top of the sport. In 1953, he won his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship. He would go on to win the title six more times, and hold it for a total of over 1,000 days.

In addition to his success in the NWA, Kiniski also won the AWA World Heavyweight Championship twice. He was the first wrestler to hold both the NWA and AWA World Heavyweight Championships at the same time.

Kiniski was a master of the piledriver. He was one of the first wrestlers to use the move regularly, and he was known for its devastating effects. Kiniski's piledriver was so feared that it was banned in many wrestling promotions.

Kiniski retired from wrestling in 1978. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2003. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 81.
