About the Author

Samuel Hawes was born in Weston, Massachusetts, in 1762. He joined the Continental Army at the age of sixteen and served throughout the Revolutionary War. After the war, he returned to Weston and became a successful farmer and businessman. He died in 1837 at the age of seventy-five.
